An Indian student has been denied a US student visa (F-1) for the second time, even after gaining admission to a better university and receiving a full-tuition scholarship. The case has sparked debate online about the fairness and clarity of the US F-1 visa process.
Denied Again, Despite Improvements
The student was applying for a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management. She attended her second F-1 visa interview on July 30, hoping that her stronger academic profile and full scholarship would increase her chances. Unfortunately, the visa was denied once again.
In her online post, the student expressed confusion and frustration, saying, "I have a better admit and don’t even need to pay tuition now—what more can I do?"
What Happened During the Interview?
According to the student, the visa officer asked about her major and what had changed since her last visa application. She explained that she had been accepted to a better-ranked university and had received a full-tuition scholarship. She added that her only financial responsibility now was to cover living expenses.
However, the visa officer replied, “Sorry, our visa rules are very strict,” and denied the application without asking any more questions.
Online Reactions: “They Think You Can’t Afford It”
The case has attracted attention on social media, with many users sharing opinions and experiences.
One user commented, “They think you can’t afford it, so you need to prove you can pay without working illegally.” Another added, “It’s not just about the scholarship. They want to know what has changed in your life and whether you’ll return home after your studies.”
Several people pointed out that improving your university admit or getting a scholarship may not be enough. The US visa process also looks closely at your financial stability, ties to your home country, and clear reasons to return after graduation.
Some Blame the System, Others Blame Presentation
Another comment said, “It sounds like the officer just didn’t like you. Visa rules are as strict as the officer wants them to be.” Some noted that the university’s reputation also plays a big role. “It matters whether the I-20 is from a top university or a lesser-known one. That can affect the officer’s decision,” one user wrote.
Others advised future applicants to focus not just on academics but also on how they present themselves during the interview. Clear answers, solid documentation, and showing strong home country ties are key factors in F-1 visa approval.
