A Unique Collaboration for the Future of Healthcare Innovation
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), has launched a new Online Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Product Development and Management. This one-year programme is designed to help working professionals and students gain advanced knowledge and practical skills in biomedical engineering, healthcare innovation, and medical product development.
This programme is being offered through the Centre for Biomedical Engineering, a joint initiative between IIT Delhi and AIIMS. It aims to bridge the gap between engineering, medicine, and healthcare management, preparing students to take on real-world challenges in the medical technology industry.
Designed for Professionals in Science, Medicine, and Engineering
The course is ideal for individuals from various academic and professional backgrounds, including biomedical engineering, biotechnology, life sciences, and medicine. It is especially suited for professionals who are looking to work in fields like healthcare research, product design, clinical validation, regulatory affairs, or medical entrepreneurship.
Students who join this programme will gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical training that can help them build or advance careers in the healthcare and med-tech sectors.
A Flexible Learning Model With Practical Exposure
This 12-month diploma programme follows a blended learning model, combining live online classes with case-based discussions, project work, and hands-on training. The teaching approach focuses on real-world problem-solving and includes a capstone project where students will identify a healthcare issue and create a working solution.
Students will also have access to modern digital tools such as 3D printers, AutoCAD, Arduino, and AI/ML platforms. These tools are used widely in product design and development and will help students apply what they learn in a practical way.
Additionally, a two-day optional campus immersion is planned at IIT Delhi to give students an opportunity for face-to-face interaction, academic exchange, and networking.
Key Topics Covered in the Programme
The diploma includes 18 academic credits and covers important topics such as Soft Tissue Characterisation, Healthcare Wearables Design, Biofabrication, Biomedical Engineering, and Entrepreneurship in Healthcare. These subjects have been carefully selected to meet current industry needs and to equip learners with both technical and business knowledge in the healthcare field.
Certification and Alumni Benefits
On successful completion of the course, students will receive a Postgraduate Diploma from IIT Delhi. They will also be granted affiliate alumni status, which gives them access to future academic programmes, alumni networks, professional events, and other campus resources.
This status is a valuable addition to any professional’s profile, especially for those looking to stay connected with the IIT community and continue learning or collaborating in the future.
Preparing India’s Next Generation of Healthcare Innovators
With the rising demand for skilled professionals in biomedical and healthcare technology, this programme comes at the right time. By bringing together two of India’s top institutions—IIT Delhi and AIIMS—this diploma offers a strong mix of technical knowledge, clinical understanding, and industry readiness.
This course opens new pathways for professionals who want to make a difference in the healthcare sector by developing smart, affordable, and effective solutions for real-world medical problems.
