Lightning-Fast Visa Approval for Indian Student Headed to California
On May 30, 2025, a student applying to San Diego State University (SDSU) received swift approval for their F-1 U.S. student visa at the U.S. Consulate in Chennai. The applicant, who will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a concentration in Game Development, shared the experience on Reddit, noting that the visa interview lasted less than two minutes.
Although the scheduled appointment was for 9:30 AM, the applicant was permitted entry at 9:00 AM. The visa interview process was quick and smooth. The interviewing officer—a composed, elderly white gentleman—conducted the session with efficiency and professionalism.
The officer began by asking why the student chose to study in the United States instead of India. The applicant responded that California offers highly specialized Game Development programs and a wider range of advanced electives, which are not as readily available in India.
When asked about financial support, the student explained that both parents are practicing doctors who own hospitals and educational institutions in India, and they would be funding the student's education in full.
After a brief pause, during which the officer stepped away from the counter, the student was asked to place their right hand on the biometric scanner. The officer then confirmed that the visa was approved and informed the student that their passport would be returned within seven days.
The approval marked a successful outcome on the applicant’s first attempt, wrapping up a seamless and encouraging visa experience.
