A young software developer from India recently went viral after sharing his remarkably swift F-1 visa approval experience at the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad. According to the applicant, the entire interview lasted barely 30 seconds—leaving many online wondering what made it go so smoothly.
In a Reddit post, the applicant shared details of the brief exchange. With two years of experience as a Backend Developer at a reputed Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) in India, he arrived at the consulate for his visa interview, scheduled for 10:30 AM IST.
The process began with the visa officer requesting his passport and I-20 form. After reviewing the documents, the officer asked about his current occupation.
“I work as a Backend Developer at a PBC,” the applicant replied.
When asked why he chose to pursue a Master's degree at this stage of his career, he answered, “While working as a developer, I realized I need to gain deeper knowledge and a strong grasp of core concepts so that I can return to India and work in better companies and more advanced roles.”
His clear goals and straightforward explanation seemed to strike the right chord. The officer responded with a smile: “Great, your visa is approved. You should receive your passport in a week or so.”
This fast-track approval has quickly become a talking point online, with many Reddit users reacting to the story. One commented, “Even they know you’re not doing a Master’s just to come back to India. Must’ve been your college or the officer’s good mood.” Another was more skeptical: “You won’t gain more knowledge in the USA—just debt, depression, and unemployment. The situation is terrible and only getting worse.”
There was also confusion about the current status of F-1 visa processing, with one user asking, “Wait, I thought F-1 visas were paused? Were these interviews scheduled before the suspension?”
Others chimed in with similar stories. “Same thing happened to me four years ago,” one said. “The visa officer relaxed as soon as they saw I worked at a top American MNC.”
While opinions vary, the applicant's experience highlights a growing trend among Indian professionals pursuing graduate studies in the U.S.—driven by the desire for career advancement and deeper technical knowledge.
