Turning Pain into Power – Akshat’s Road to Victory
When Akshat Ruhela was just 7 months old, a medical mistake changed his life forever. Due to an injection error, his right arm had to be amputated. Many thought his life would be filled with limitations. Some said he would never live a “normal” life. But Akshat had something stronger than a full body—he had courage, belief, and an unbreakable spirit.
The Beginning of His Sports Journey
Growing up, Akshat didn’t see himself as someone with a disability. He saw himself as someone who could achieve anything with hard work. His love for sports, especially badminton, began at a young age. What started as a hobby soon turned into a serious passion. He wanted to prove to himself—and to the world—that nothing is impossible.
With dedication and daily practice, he began playing competitively in para-badminton. He trained under the guidance of Arjuna Award winner Manoj Sarkar, who played a key role in shaping Akshat’s game and mindset.
Achievements That Inspire
Despite all odds, Akshat kept moving forward. In 2023, he won the Gold Medal at the School National Games—a proud moment not just for him, but for every young athlete who dreams big. In 2020, he was honored as a 'Daksh Divyang Player', a title given to outstanding athletes with disabilities.
These achievements didn’t come easy. Behind every medal was a battle with pain, rejection, and struggle.
Facing School and Society
Akshat’s school life wasn’t always kind. Like many children with physical challenges, he faced teasing, stares, and doubts from others. But instead of letting these experiences pull him down, he used them as fuel to grow stronger.
He says, “People judged me before knowing me. But slowly, I made them see what I could do, not what I lacked.”
Financial and Mental Challenges
Coming from a humble background, finances were often a concern. Sports gear, travel for tournaments, coaching—all required money. Many times, his family had to make sacrifices so Akshat could follow his dream. Along with financial hurdles, there were moments of self-doubt and mental stress.
But through every dark phase, Akshat kept going. His strong will, along with support from his family and coach, kept him on the right path.
A Message to the World
Akshat doesn’t just want to be remembered as a champion—he wants to be a voice of hope. For those who feel broken, defeated, or lost, he has a simple message:
“Don’t listen to the world. Listen to your heart. Your weakness can become your power.”
He believes that a disability is not in the body—it’s in the mind. If you believe in yourself, nothing can stop you.
Akshat Ruhela’s journey is not just about winning medals. It’s about winning against life’s toughest challenges. He reminds us all that true strength is not about what you have, but what you make of it.
