Empowering India Through Skills

In a compelling episode of The Meg Show, we had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Rakesh Bhatia — a veteran in the field of technical education, a passionate mentor, and an insightful non-professional astrologer. With over 32 years of experience dedicated to empowering India’s youth through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Mr. Bhatia shares his powerful journey, deep insights, and a vision for a future where skills shape success.

A Lifelong Commitment to Skill Development
Mr. Bhatia’s career is a testament to dedication, innovation, and service. Through his decades-long involvement with ITIs, he has worked tirelessly to bridge the skills gap in India, making technical education accessible and practical for students from all walks of life.

“I believe in creating opportunities where none existed,” Mr. Bhatia shares. “Skill India isn’t just a government program — it’s a movement that uplifts communities and transforms lives.”

The Vital Role of Technical Education in an AI-Driven World
With the rapid advancement of technology and the growing presence of artificial intelligence, Mr. Bhatia emphasizes that technical education has never been more important. While traditional degrees have their place, it is the hands-on, industry-aligned training offered by ITIs that prepares students for real-world challenges.

“Today’s world demands doers, not just thinkers. ITIs produce professionals who are ready from day one,” he explains.

Government Support for Rural and Low-Income Students
Recognizing the disparity in access to education, Mr. Bhatia lauds the Indian government’s initiatives aimed at rural and underprivileged youth. Subsidized training programs, scholarships, and digital inclusion efforts have all contributed to bringing skill education to the last mile.

“These efforts are ensuring that talent doesn’t go wasted just because of where someone is born,” he adds.

ITIs: A Launchpad for Entrepreneurship
Beyond job readiness, ITIs also foster a spirit of entrepreneurship. Students are encouraged to become job creators instead of just job seekers. Mr. Bhatia notes a rising trend of self-employment among graduates, many of whom start their own ventures in manufacturing, repairs, and service industries.

“With the right skills and mentorship, our youth can build businesses that not only support themselves but also uplift their communities,” he says.

Encouraging Female Participation and Social Change
A strong advocate for gender equality, Mr. Bhatia has actively worked to increase female enrollment in ITIs. Through outreach programs and counseling, ITIs are slowly breaking stereotypes and making technical fields more accessible to young women.

“When a girl learns a skill, an entire family is empowered. Changing mindsets is as important as teaching the trade,” he emphasizes.

Connecting India to Global Standards
Mr. Bhatia also speaks about the evolving standards of technical education in India. With international collaborations, updated curricula, and modernized infrastructure, ITIs are now aligning with global benchmarks — making Indian graduates globally competitive.

A Vision Rooted in Empowerment
Throughout the episode, one thing is clear: Mr. Rakesh Bhatia’s work is driven by a deep-rooted belief in empowerment through education. His story is one of resilience, vision, and transformation — and it serves as a beacon for anyone looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.

As he concludes, “The future of India lies in the hands of our skilled youth. And every tool we give them today is a building block for a stronger tomorrow.”
